The sun staying out longer, the days are longer and summer provides us an opportunity to invest in our mental well being. Here are the five summer essentials that can help you foster better mental health:

  1. Sunshine and Fresh Air: Go get that D on the daily! Sunlight is a natural source of Vitamin D. One of the most natural ways to enhance your mood is to spend time outdoors. Sunlight boosts serotonin levels, which can help improve your mood and create a sense of calm. Whether it's a morning walk, an afternoon in the park, or simply sitting on your balcony, make it a habit to soak in some sunshine and breathe in the fresh air. Be sure to use proper sun protection based on your specific needs.

  2. Physical Activity: Moving our bodies is great for more than just our physical health but also our mental and emotional health as well. Outside of the more standard depictions of exercise, increasing movement by ways of dancing, completing housework, working in the garden, or playing with children is a great way for people who may struggle with feeling like finding additionally time to have structure gym time is unrealistic for their current lifestyle. The beauty of summer provides the perfect backdrop for activities like swimming, hiking, biking, or even a simple jog. Movement releases endorphins, the body's natural mood lifters, and can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

  3. Hydration and Nutrition: Staying hydrated is essential, especially during the warmer months. Water is vital for brain function and energy levels. Alongside hydration, incorporating fresh summer produce like berries, melons, and leafy greens can provide the necessary nutrients to keep your body and mind in top shape.
